The Highlander is offered in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations, with a choice of seven trim levels: LE (FWD only), LE V6, LE Plus V6, XLE V6, SE V6, Limited V6 and Limited Platinum V6. The LE is powered by a 185-hp 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode; all other trims get a new 295-hp 3.5-liter V6 engine with auto stop-start feature and eight-speed automatic with manual shift mode. Notable (trim-dependent) equipment includes: a power moonroof, power liftgate, 18- and 19-inch aluminum wheels, passive entry/start, three-zone automatic climate control, heated/ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, HD/satellite radio, Bluetooth wireless connectivity/audio streaming and up to 5 USB ports, as well as the Navigation and App Suite, featuring an 8-inch touch-screen with split screen display, voice activation, internet access and smartphone integration. Standard safety features include anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, electronic stability/traction control systems and a rear backup monitor, as well as eight airbags and Toyota Safety Sense.
The Toyota Highlander receives a number of changes for 2017, including updated exterior styling, the introduction of a more powerful V6 engine with 8-speed automatic transmission, and Toyota Safety Sense made standard across the board. Additionally, a new SE trim joins the lineup, featuring unique sporty styling elements and a tuned suspension.
